Our Partners

Our many partners support the mission of Bienestar in a variety of ways…

Resident Services Program Partners 2011

Adelante Mujeres (www.adelantemujeres.org) is our partner in three programs.  We will work to engage some of our residents in the organic farming micro enterprise training program so that they will gain the skills, land, and support that they need to begin small farm production operations. We also partner with them to bring Adelante Chicas to our preteen girls. Since 2009 we partner to offer IDA'S (Individual development accounts) to our residents.

Our partnership with Audubon Society of Portland (www.audubonportland.org) makes a summer nature daycamp possible for 96 resident children in grades 3-8.  Explorador Camp has received funding from the Gray Family Fund.  The Audubon Society partnership  also allows us to host family nature outings during the year for families.

We are proud to be a partner in the Bridges to Housing project in Washington County (www.bridgestohousing.com). This is an innovative and holistic approach to the problem of family homelessness. We have provided apartments in Washington County for this program.

CASA of Oregon, (www.casaoforegon.org) has been our development consultant for over 20 years in farmworker housing. CASA has helped us to develop Cornelius Park, Elm Park, Reedville Apts. and Sycamore View. We are working with casa on our newest project Juniper Gardens. We also partner with them to offer our youth IDA program.

CASH Oregon (www.cashoregon.org) Partners with Bienestar with funding, resources and support for our free Income Tax Preparation Campaign. In 2011 we helped 423 families file $680,900.00 in tax credits.

Catlin Gabel High School (www.catlin.edu) has provided student and Faculty volunteers for our Reedville Homework Club since 2008. In 2011 students conducted a book drive for Bienestar, collecting over 3000 books for children.

Community Action (www.caowash.org) Partners with Bienestar in advocacy efforts fighting poverty. We also refer residents to many of their programs.

Dress for Success (www.dressforsuccess.org) Provides professional attire for Bienestar resident women for job interviews or new employment.

De La Salle High School's (www.delasallenorth.org) Faculty members brought a group of students to teach ESL classes in 2011.

Our partnership with Forest Grove School District (www.fgsd.k12.or.us) has meant helping families enroll their children in the new Summer Success Academy without fees. We are grateful to the Migrant Education Program for funding that supports Homewrok Club in Forest Grove.

Girl Scouts are active at Montebello Apartments.

HandsOn Portland (www.handsonportland.org) Provides a web portal allowing us to recruit volunteers for ongoing programs and special events. We've recruited some wonderful volunteers through HandsOn.

Legal Aid of Oregon, providing legal assistance to low-income individuals, has been our partner for many years. Staff and Promotores refer families with legal issues to this agency with offices in Hillsboro. See (www.oregonlawhelps.org) for more information.

Through our partnership with Northwest Children’s Outreach, (www.northwestchildrensoutreach), we are able to provide clothing, infant care products, diapers, formula and many of the other necessities parents need for their children.

Murray Hills Christian Church www.murrayhills.org has been providing culturally appropriate food for our residents in a weekly basis since 2010.

NAMI (www.namiwash.org) Partners with Bienestar in training for stuff and Promotores on mental health as well as presentations for residents.

Oregon Health Career Center OHCC (www.ohcc.org) is our partner in the AKA (All Kids Are) Scientists Program.  Using curriculum materials and training from OHCC, staff and volunteers roll out Science Club programs for kids in grades K-6 to harness their interest in science.

OCDC (Oregon Child Development Coalition) and the Migrant Head Start program have been our partner for many years.  We regularly refer our families to their programs for children from infant to pre-kindergarten.

OFB volunteers also teach adult children's nutrition/cooking classes.

Pacific University (www.pacificu.edu) has granted us a Work Study allocation since 2008 will allows us to have Pacific University students working with us part time to help out with Homework Club during the school year.

Play Write (www.playwriteinc.org) Began participating with Bienestar in 2010 by offering 8 teens a two week playwriting workshop culminating in a performance at the Walters Art Center in August.

Princeton Property Management Company (www.princetonproperty.com) has been our property manager for 24years!  The daily operations of the ten properties in our portfolio are under the direction of our portfolio managers Allison Brown and Laura Flores.

The SALUD! program at Tuality Hospital (www.tuality.org) facilitates access to health care for seasonal migrant vineyard workers and their families, and advocates for the health care needs of the population and the general Latino community.  We are pleased to partner with Salud! in working for access to health care for our resident families.

Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center (www.virginiagarcia.org) has a formal Memorandum of Understanding with us that formalizes our relationship with them in providing access to health care and services for our resident families without medical insurance.

We have worked with the Worksource Oregon Employment Department for many years, and are particularly pleased to have the participation of Mary Lewis on the Promotores Advisory Board to help us with resources, referrals and access to workforce development assistance for our residents.

Walters Cultural Arts Center in Hillsboro (www.ci.hillsboro.or.us/wcac/).  We discovered in 2008 that one of our residents, Isaac Alonzo, is a gifted artist from Mexico.  After curator Carl Annala saw his work, he scheduled a show of his paintings at the Walters Center in February of 2009. We are planing our 30th anniversary at the center on March 10, 2012. Click the link to learn more: Bienestar 30th Anniversary Celebration
